Service Description

Each class will have two students who will learn to work as a team to develop the technical skills of the ancient art of glass blowing. Here's what to expect, each week there will be a short 15 minute demonstration from your instructor and the remainder of the time will be split between the students. Week one we will discuss safety, common terminology, tools, shop edict, team work, and gathering glass (prince Rupert drops). This week is about getting comfortable in the shop and familiar with the material. Week two we will focus on solid forms such as paperweights and color applications. There will be a discussion about alternative ways to work with color, how to create spirals and create bubbles. The students will also learn how to assist each other. Week three we will work on bottom weighted spheres. This will include learning how to pop a bubble, jack lines, and blowing glass evenly. Each student will have a chance to blow their own ornament. Week four we will be focusing on blowing more challenging forms such as cups. There will be an additional demonstration for punties; the cup transfer Week 5 we will be talking about hot bits, applying wraps/handles. We will make vases. Week 6 will talk about bowls and give the students a chance to choose an item to make. After this course, you will have a good understanding of how molten glass is formed and created. $175 per person per week 3 hours session per week
